Clwyd Alyn Housing Association was launched in October 1978 as a non-charitable Registered Social Landlord (RSL) to answer the growing housing needs of the community throughout the former County of Clwyd and the District of Aberconwy.
Our primary role is to provide housing and related care needs to meet a range of community needs.
It all begun in a small office in Kinmel Street, Rhyl, with two members of staff. At the end of our first year, we owned six sites, which provided eighty homes.
Work continued and we successfully negotiated the transfer of properties in North Wales, owned by associations outside the region, into our ownership.
At the end of year three, we had grown, managing 258 houses.
Some twelve and a half years after, we had more than 1,600 properties in management and had embarked on a £60 million development program, which saw a doubling of its size over the next two years.
In February 2000 Clwyd Alyn established a charitable subsidiary called Tŷ Glas Housing Society Ltd to facilitate better use of financial resources funding and to provide complementary services to Clwyd Alyn. Tŷ Glas Housing Society Limited is a Registered Social Landlord with charitable rules. In March 2001 the Care & Repair activity, comprising the Wrexham and Conwy Care & Repair agencies, was transferred from Clwyd Alyn to Tŷ Glas. In May 2007 the Conwy Care & Repair Agency was transferred to Care & Repair Cymru, leaving Tŷ Glas to manage the Wrexham Care & Repair agency.
Substantial changes to the regulation of Registered Social Landlords (RSL), particularly in respect of financial reporting standards, necessitated a further review of the Group’s structure to ensure continued efficiency in the Association’s operations and resources. The review resulted in the formulation of Pennaf Housing Group. Pennaf was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 22 January 2003 and Registered with the Welsh Assembly Government as a RSL on 31st March 2003. Pennaf provides Corporate Services to Group Members. At the same time, Clwyd Alyn adopted charitable rules and both Clwyd Alyn and Tŷ Glas became subsidiaries of Pennaf.
Over its 38 years of existence Clwyd Alyn has expanded and now manages in excess of 5,400 units in six unitary authority areas (Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham and Powys) and employs over 550 members of staff.
Clwyd Alyn Housing Association is a Charitable Registered Society (No. 22360R), is a Registered Social Landlord (No. L051), ‘is Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority’ and our registered office is 72 Ffordd William Morgan, St Asaph Business Park, St Asaph, LL17 0JD.Tweet
