First Hafan Cefni apartment on show
Hafan Cefni’s first independent living apartment was unveiled during a recent visit to the £10m complex.
The flagship extra care housing scheme for older people is a partnership development between the Isle of Anglesey County Council, Tŷ Glas Housing Society, part of the Pennaf Housing Group, and the Welsh Government.
Due to open this summer, Hafan Cefni will comprise of 63 one and two-bedroom apartments with a wide range of communal facilities and landscaping on the site of the former Ysgol Y Bont School in Llangefni.
Senior Council officials and members were suitably impressed during a visit to see a one-bedroom show apartment.
Anglesey Council Leader and Social Services portfolio holder, Councillor Llinos Medi, said, “This exciting new extra care scheme is an important step forward for the County Council as we look to transform older adult social care on Anglesey for future generations. Our aim is to continue to develop community based services which focus on providing residents with the independence they want and high levels of care.”
“Having now seen the first independent living apartment for myself, it is clear that Hafan Cefni will provide high quality accommodation for residents, allowing them to keep their independence, whilst also offering peace of mind that dedicated care and support is on hand when needed."
The development will offer a high quality housing for older people (over 60s) who wish to continue living independently while having the benefit of communal facilities and the peace of mind of 24-hour access to care support.
The apartments are available to rent for local people, or those with a strong local connection, who are aged 60 or over, subject to eligibility criteria.
Steve Robinson, Extra Care Services Manager for the Pennaf Housing Group added, “The new Hafan Cefni scheme has been designed to enable people to live well, in their own home, with access to support that can adapt as their needs change. Extra Care housing provides peace-of mind, security and independence in a way that can really enhance people’s later years.”
“With access to 24-hour on-site care, these self-contained apartments are an ideal choice for those looking to continue living independently while being able to access individual care support to suit a wide range of different needs.”
