A ClwydAlyn Love story
Alan and Freda Ryland are both residents at Llys Raddington Extra Care Scheme, and for Valentine’s Day this year spoke to us about their 68 years together.
Originally from Liverpool, they met when Alan came to Freda’s house to invite her sister to a party. Freda then got to know Alan better at Alsop High School, where she was studying ballroom dancing and he was working towards his school certificate. They got married in Liverpool when they were both 22 years old and have a son and a daughter.
After a period living in Stoke on Trent, they came to Wales in 1966 and have lived here ever since. They spent more than 50 years living in Bagillt, where they had a bungalow with a great view the family enjoyed. Alan worked as an Environmental Health Officer for Delyn Borough Council, before working as PA to the Chief Executive at Mold County Hall
Highlights of their marriage include cruises to the Bahamas, where they sailed home across the Atlantic; Greece and the Baltic coast, where they visited St Petersburg. They’ve also enjoyed many camping holidays with the family, touring Europe and have happy memories of France particularly. In their spare time they used to play golf and indoor and outdoor bowls together, and laugh because, when they met, Freda supported Liverpool FC, and Alan supported Everton! They love ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ and look forward to their Platinum wedding anniversary in 2 years’ time!
In their flat is a beautiful photo their daughter took of the view of the sunset over their bungalow in Bagillt, and a photo of them both at Alan’s recent birthday party at Llys Raddington.
"we just stay together, and we’re very happy."
"We really like it here at Llys Raddington. We have a wonderful corner flat, and everybody is nice here."
Congratulations to them both for their nearly 70 years together, and to a happy St Valentine’s Day and many more years to come!
