Homes for Ukraine scheme

The Government has launched its 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme being led by The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Under the scheme people in the UK will be able to nominate an individual or family to stay with them rent-free, or in another property, for at least six months for those fleeing the war.

ClwydAlyn has received a number of enquiries regarding this scheme, and we fully support the Government’s approach and are more than happy for any tenant who wishes to help and offer support to a refugee if they have a spare room in their house.

The scheme offers £350 a month to help support the refugees. Checks will be made on all hosts by the Government and Ukrainian applicants will also undergo security checks. Ukrainians welcomed into this scheme will be eligible to work, access state benefits and public services for three years.

If you are a leaseholder or shared owner and you wish to open your ClwydAlyn home to an individual or family fleeing the war in Ukraine, please contact the Affordable Homes team before applying, as we will need to check the terms of your lease before progressing

Our values are Trust, Hope and Kindness and our tenants and staffs response so far to this war has been amazing, their generosity has not gone un=notices and we at ClwydAlyn will be on hand to provide as much support to this initiative as possible.

It is important to remember that:

  • We cannot allow your home to become overcrowded.
  • You cannot let the whole of your ClwydAlyn home to someone else - you must still live at the address.
  • You will be responsible for the behaviour of anyone you invite into your home, including a refugee.
  • You must be able to help house someone for at least 6 months.
  • You will not be able to charge any rent for housing a refugee. However, the Government is offering an optional ‘thank you’ payment of £350 per month, for up to 12 months, for as long as you sponsor somebody.
  • If you receive benefits you must tell the relevant agency about the money you receive as it may affect your claim.
