Tackling loneliness at our Extra Care and Care Homes

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week and ClwydAlyn has shared how it helps its residents feel less alone.

Here at ClwydAlyn, our staff are committed to ensure the best possible service for our residents. Our Extra Care schemes and Care homes have dedicated Activities Coordinators, aimed to make our residents’ lives fun and interesting; offering regular activities to engage residents and help them to socialise with fellow residents.

Activities Coordinator, Julie Williams said,

“My job is to ensure that our residents within our Extra Care Schemes and Care Homes get the best experience possible during their time with us. For many of our residents moving into to one of our facilities may seem overwhelming, and my aim is to help them to settle in and immerse them in the great communities we have created.

“Loneliness has a direct link to people’s emotional wellbeing, with both feeding off each other. As an Activities Coordinator I want to put a stop to that vicious circle.”

ClwydAlyn believes in providing support for people via a range of housing choices and related services to maintain your independence, offering Extra Care and Care Home accommodation that has access to a range of Care and Support services, tailored to a person’s support needs.

Its aim is to help you to maintain and improve your independence, health and well being through the provision of a home within a community that is accessible, secure and has individually tailored support where required.

Julie added,

“I love being able to interact with our residents and make new connections with them. It enables me to tailor the activities we organise here, ensuring that we offer accessible fun things for all. Not only does it directly tackle loneliness, but it also helps me to look at the bigger picture, enabling me to get to know our residents on a very personal level, which allows me to support them and offer a safety net.

“One of the biggest fears we hear from new residents is the fear of being alone and I can assure you, we don’t want that either.  Here at ClwydAlyn we want to provide residents with a lifeline, improving their social lives, allowing them to make new friends – giving them something to look forward to on a regular basis.”

ClwydAlyn’s Activities Coordinators organise regular activities, events and days out, which include coffee mornings, bingo, quizzes, entertainment from local performers, art workshops and much more!
