Work underway at new housing development site on Anglesey

A new housing development scheme in Anglesey has recently started near the Coleg Menai Pencraig campus in Llangefni.

The £9.6m project, which is led by ClwydAlyn in partnership with Anglesey County Council and Welsh Government, will create 60 new affordable homes that will be available to buy or rent by May 2023.

The development will offer energy efficient homes with an EPC rating of A and will include a range of sustainable technologies, including air source heat pumps that will reduce heating costs and lower the carbon emissions.

Craig Sparrow, Executive Director at ClwydAlyn said:

“This is an exciting new scheme on Anglesey that will provide high quality affordable homes and will address a key need for housing in the local area as well as provide a great learning opportunity for students from the college.”

“Our mission is to beat poverty and ensure that everyone in North Wales has access to excellent quality housing.  We're delighted to be working in partnership with Anwyl Partnerships and Anglesey County Council to bring the scheme to fruition and meet local demands, as well as boosting local employment."

Anwyl Partnerships will be delivering construction works at the site, utilising its local in‐house project team supported by a local supply chain, comprising contractors and suppliers.

The 4.2 acre site, which was formerly part of the college campus, will be transformed into a new development that will include 44 two‐ and three‐bedroom houses and 16 two bedroom apartments.

Mike Nevitt, Managing Director of Anwyl Partnerships commented:

“This is a large project that essentially includes the construction of a brand new community in Llangefni, creating 60 much needed affordable homes for rent/sale.

“Community really does matter with this project and the site has been designed to help cultivate this ethos. Our approach will marry the long term vision of our clients and will be community led throughout.”

Anglesey Council’s Housing portfolio holder, Councillor Alun Mummery, said:

“This new housing project in partnership with Clwyd Alyn and Welsh Government represents our continued commitment to providing tenants and families with quality homes in communities across the island.” "

"The Council's Housing Service has a statutory responsibility to assess housing need and lead on partnership working to provide quality housing locally. Our Housing Strategy 2022 ‐ 2027 will be integral as we work independently, and with key partners, to continue to meet the needs of our residents now and in the future.”

Cllr Mummery added:

“I’m pleased to see that the work has started in Llangefni. We have seen significant increases in house prices on Anglesey recently and there is an even greater need to support local families to get on the housing ladder. This development will help us do this; benefiting local companies and the economy.”

This scheme is part of ClwydAlyn's development programme to deliver further 1500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 at an investment of £250m bringing the total number of homes in management to over 7,500
