Last week, Jack Sargeant, Member of the Senedd for Alyn and Deeside, visited ClwydAlyn’s Northern Gateway development in Deeside to find out how the homes have benefitted new residents.

ClwydAlyn’s recently completed development of 100 new, affordable homes has been built in partnership with Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government. The homes have all been built as ‘lifetime homes’, designed to be adaptable and meet the changing needs of the residents, incorporating sustainable technology to ensure lower running costs.

Mr Sargeant is a passionate advocate of social homes. As a Connah’s Quay local, he was keen to find out more about the Northern Gateway development; chat to residents and the ClwydAlyn team to find out how these homes will form part of their future.

With a focus on tackling rising fuel costs and creating energy efficient homes, all properties at Northern Gateway incorporate cleaner, greener technologies and innovative designs. Additions including air source heat pumps and solar electricity panels make heating and powering the properties much more affordable and residents are already experiencing the advantages.

“The way it is energy efficient means it is brilliant for the environment and from a monetary perspective will help us so much.”

Resident

Mr Sargeant met with resident Danielle and her daughter, who is keen to raise her family in a stable, positive community.

“Where we lived before my three children couldn’t play out, but here they can and have already made lots of friends. The neighbours are lovely and because of the way the houses have been built, it’s always really quiet and perfect for my family. It’s such a strong community here already.”

Resident
“This type of housing is so important. It gives residents the stability they need.

“Community matters. A good home and a sense of community is so important for giving people good outcomes and is vital for building the economy.

“I’m so pleased to see that the residents here have settled in so well and wish them all the best for their futures.”

Member of the Senedd for Alyn and Deeside
“It was a pleasure to welcome Jack Sargeant to Northern Gateway. He was keen to see the measures which we’ve put in place to ensure ongoing affordability in these new homes. We were also able to demonstrate the work we do with our technology partners to educate residents; including the efficient use of solar panels and heat pumps which enable energy bills to remain as low as possible.”
