Residents at an independent living scheme in Flint have come together to create a stunning display of hand-crafted poppies, to commemorate Remembrance Day 2025, and have been honoured with a Mayor’s Community Award to celebrate their creative tribute.
Llys Raddington, in the heart of Flint, is an independent living scheme for the over 60s. The residents, who enjoy a varied social life, happened upon the idea to create their own display of handmade poppies. Resident Jane Swinton who served in the RAF was one of the contributors to the display.
Jane, along with residents Susan Peers, Barbara Foulkes and Maureen Parry, utilised the bases of plastic bottles, which they painted red, to form the poppy installation. The display features several hundred hand-crafted flowers which were skilfully attached to wire mesh. Finishing touches came in the form of striking red lights which illuminate the display and two poignant soldier silhouettes.
The display will remain in place until after Remembrance Day, allowing members of the Llys Raddington community to pay their respects to those who have died in conflict.
