Social homes provider ClwydAlyn has partnered with Transport for Wales on a new scheme to install cycle hangar units across several of its residential developments, helping residents to access secure, weather-proof storage for bicycles and other essential items.

ClwydAlyn’s new bike hangar scheme has been made possible through funding secured from Transport for Wales, as part of its Phase 1 Cycle Hangar Programme. The project also supports ClwydAlyn’s ongoing commitment to meeting the objectives set out in the Welsh Housing Quality Standard 2023 (WHQS), which places increased emphasis on external storage and sustainable living.

Following a successful funding bid, Cyclehoop was appointed as the preferred supplier for the provision and installation of the hangars. Known for their robust and vandal-resistant design, the Cyclehoop units provide residents with safe and secure bicycle storage close to their homes.

Supporting Active and Sustainable Travel

“We’re proud to work with ClwydAlyn, with funding from Welsh Government, to deliver new secure cycle parking for homes and community spaces across Wales. Through Phase 1 of our Cycle Hangar Programme, we’re installing 40 hangars across eight different housing associations with plans for more at railway stations. These practical, everyday improvements will make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle and we’re glad to bring these benefits to communities served by ClwydAlyn.”

“As part of the new WHQS standard, ClwydAlyn is committed to providing robust and lockable external storage for our residents. These storage solutions help residents safely store items such as bicycles, garden equipment, pushchairs and mobility aids, while also encouraging sustainable travel choices.

“We’re very grateful to be part of this project with Transport for Wales and for the funding provided through the Transport for Wales and Welsh Government scheme. So far, we have installed four cycle hangars for residents to use, in Prestatyn, Bagillt, Mold and Wrexham.

“We have ongoing plans to continue working with Transport for Wales to install further hangars this year, enabling even more residents to benefit from secure cycle storage. The Cyclehoop hangars are excellent. They are robust, vandal-resistant and highly secure. By installing these storage options, alongside other initiatives to support residents in accessing bicycles, we hope to see a real improvement in active travel, as well as positive impacts on physical and mental wellbeing.”
