The final residents have moved into a new development of 56 energy-efficient, lifetime homes at Mynydd Isa, in Flintshire.

The modern homes, developed by ClwydAlyn in conjunction with contractor Castle Green Partnerships, Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government, will provide a firm-foundation for families in the Mynydd Isa area.

Lifetime Homes for Local Residents

The 56-home development which commenced on Mold Road in August 2023 has been completed on schedule. The homes, designed to meet the changing needs of residents, are a combination of one-, two-, and three-bedroom styles, including bungalows, apartments, semi-detached and detached homes as well as an accessible bungalow. All the homes meet and exceed the current regulatory standards including Welsh Government Housing Quality Standard, Welsh Government Development Quality Requirements and Welsh Government Beautiful Homes and Spaces Standards.

Resident Sophie recently moved into the scheme with her family. She said: “My son Leo is six and my daughter Ivy is four, and we’ve come from a flat with no garden and nowhere to play. The open spaces inside and outside of where we are now are amazing. It’s all a massive, massive change and the street feels safe, with the park only two minutes away.

“We can’t wait to move in today and are so excited the process is all done and that it’s all energy efficient too; the bills will be great. I’d like to say thanks to ClwydAlyn for making it all possible.”

All the homes at the Mynydd Isa scheme are built to support the environment and offer fuel efficiencies, enabling maximum savings for the residents. The homes include:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Solar electricity panels
  • Positioned to maximise solar gain and natural daylight
  • Electric car charging facilities

New resident Bronwyn said: “I feel excited and so lucky to be moving in. It’s so quiet here, which is perfect for my 11-year-old son, who has ASD and ADHD and is highly intelligent. Because of my new home, I’ve been able to secure him a place at the local High School, which has a resource centre for his needs and means he can stay in mainstream schooling. Living here means we are much closer to family and our support network, and this makes all the difference. I’m also in my first year of my nursing degree, and will have space to study, after gaining full distinctions on my previous course. It feels like everything’s come together at the same time, and moving here has motivated me!”

“We are delighted to welcome the final 12 residents to their new community at Mynydd Isa.

“With the increased cost of living, these well-insulated, high-quality homes will support our residents to save energy and money in the long run too; relieving stress and supporting their wellbeing.

“These safe, warm homes signal a fresh start for our residents; and we wish them every success with this new chapter of their lives.”

We are delighted to hand over the final homes at Mynydd Isa. This marks the second development of affordable homes we have completed for Clwyd Alyn, with a third under way at Well St in Buckley. The need for affordable housing has never been greater and Castle Green, along with Clwyd Alyn, aim to deliver many more affordable homes across North Wales in the coming years.”
