Llys Marchan in Ruthin is a care home which offers 10 residential places, for adults requiring support for mental ill health. Staff at the purpose-built care home are dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care and companionship to the residents. This week, that included a visit from four adorable lambs which were just one week old.

Feeding a lamb isn’t something you get to do every day! That’s why residents, staff, and visitors at Llys Marchan, were overjoyed with a rather adorable encounter! Four lambs, which were just eight days old, brought everyone together for a rather special event!

The two black and white lambs are a show breed called Valais Blacknose and the white sheep are Texels. The residents and their guests were amazed by how cute and playful the lambs were and how friendly they were whilst being fed. And everyone was completely astonished at how strong they were, when taking the bottle!

The lambs belong to Llys Marchan’s Deputy Manager Ceri Owen, where they’re kept on her small holding. Although they’re just over a week old, they have already started growing their horns!

“Interactions like this are so important for our residents. All our residents interacted with the lambs and were given an opportunity to bottle feed them. It was very therapeutic and lovely to see!
“The benefits are not only feeding and meeting the lambs. Residents also enjoyed asking questions and finding out the differences between the breeds. The general benefits were clear to see, in that residents were interacting so caringly with the lambs and so were some of the children who visited. The visit encouraged so many lovely connections; residents, visitors and staff, all chatting and spending time with the lambs and each other.
Everyone is still speaking about it today! We feel very lucky that Ceri has a small holding and allows us to share in this experience with her.”
