A charity six-a-side football tournament organised by ClwydAlyn’s Sports and Social (SAS) committee has raised an impressive £1,500 for local hospice, St Kentigern, which provides end-of-life and residential palliative care.
Eighteen teams of six, took to the pitch at St Asaph Leisure Centre on Sunday 27 July, for a day of friendly competition, community spirit and fundraising, in support of St Kentigern Hospice. The event was planned by colleagues Martin Halewood and Annie Jackson, who are both members of ClwydAlyn’s SAS committee. Teams included members from a variety of local organisations and businesses; ClwydAlyn, Cartrefi Conwy, Greenthumb, Roger W Jones, Samco, Independent Solutions, British Gas, ParkCity, Blue Turtle Group, Onnen, Cadnant Planning, Creating Enterprise and North Wales Fire & Rescue. Plus, independent teams; Rhyl XI, Llan Veterans and Dyffryn Conwy Amateurs and Baz FC. There were 52 matches played, with a grand total of 77 goals scored (excluding penalties)!
Organisers also set up a raffle and ‘Guess how Many Goals’ competition, with money going towards the fundraising target. A grand total of over £1,500 was achieved on the day, with donations still coming in.
The tournament is part of a wider fundraising campaign. Earlier this year, ClwydAlyn announced that its staff had chosen St Kentigern as their ‘Charity of the Year’.
“I’d like to thank everyone from our community, who showed up and made this event a huge success. And Alwyn from St Kentigern who presented the medals to the winning teams!”
Congratulations to the tournament’s winning team, Baggers Belief and to the runners up, Llan Veterans.
Thanks also go to event sponsors, K&C Construction and to the three referees Glyn, Graham and Tom.
