Residents have moved into a recently completed development of energy efficient, modern homes at Cae Swch, Llan Ffestiniog, in Gwynedd. The homes, which have been built by Wales Timber Solutions (WTS) on behalf of social homes provider ClwydAlyn, were funded by a social housing grant in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd and Welsh Government.
Affordable Homes for Local Residents
New residents have moved into a development of 16 homes in Eryri National Park. The 2,3-and-4-bedroom homes, which cost £3.5 million to complete, were constructed by local contractor Wales Timber Solutions (WTS), funded by a social housing grant.
Cost Effective and Energy Efficient
All ClwydAlyn’s 16 new homes at Cae Swch have been designed with energy efficiency in mind with the aim to keep fuel bills at a minimum for the residents. The use of greener technologies, including air source heat pumps and solar electricity panels ensure that the homes are cost effective to run and support the environment.
- Heated using air source heat pumps
- Provided with solar electricity panels
- Positioned to maximise solar gain and natural daylight
- Capacity for electric car charging facilities
Modern, Safe, Warm Homes
The homes are also built using ‘Modern Methods of Construction’, incorporating as many natural and sustainable materials as possible. In addition, as many materials as possible are sourced from local manufacturers and suppliers, keeping the construction carbon footprint low.
Welcoming New Residents
All the new homes at Cae Swch meet and exceed the current regulatory standards including Welsh Government Housing Quality Standard, Welsh Government Development Quality Requirements and Welsh Government Lifetime Homes Standards.

“This comes at a critical time. We currently have almost 4,500 individuals on the waiting list for social homes in Gwynedd and addressing this demand remains one of the Council’s priorities as we work to ensure local people are able to access suitable, affordable, quality homes in their communities.
"We are working hard to tackle the housing crisis, which continues to have a serious impact on our communities and by working in close partnership with housing associations like ClwydAlyn we can deliver the energy-efficient, sustainable, and modern homes that the people of Gwynedd so urgently need.”
